Class Announcements

Welcome To Choir!

My name is Mary Edwards and I am the Choir Director at Miller Intermediate School. I am very excited to give you highlights of our program this school year.

My Choir program includes Honor Choir, Orff Ensemble (a method created by Carl Orff that develops musical learning in children through creating, listening and performing), General Music and Handbells. The Honor Choir and Orff Ensemble are the performing groups this year, which perform on and off-campus. Students learn to read music using Kodaly (a child developmental method which progresses from the known to the unknown, from the total experience to the individual experience, and from activities to symbols), Orff and Dalcroze Eurhythmics techniques (a music training method that fosters music appreciation, ear-training and improvisation, using the body as the main instrument) of sight-reading music through movement.

Our first performance event this year was the Solo and Ensemble Contest, held at Alief Middle School on Saturday, October 24, 2015. This was our first time performing in a Contest event and we received a 1st Place “Superior” rating!

We performed in December at the following off-campus locations:

  • West Oaks Rehabilitation Center

  • West Oaks Mall

Our school concerts include afternoon and morning Concerts and an evening Concert for parents, family members and friends.

Other highlights of our school year include:

  • Alief Choir Day-where all of the High School choirs performed for the Intermediate and Middle School choir students.

  • Orff Festival and the Alief Intermediate Music Festival which will be held in May.

  • Our Spring concerts are also held in May, allowing choir members to showcase their talents and the techniques and skills they have learned in Choir class.

If your child(ren) is interested in performing in the Miller Intermediate Honor Choir, please visit our website at Choir.educatorpages.com., and follow the 3 easy steps below:
